The desert might not be the first destination that comes to your mind when looking for comfort and luxury but it is available at our Barna Desert Resort. With our resort in Barna we give our guests the chance to experience the desert in the most comfortable ways possible.
Enjoy the time in in one of our mud cottages or Swiss tents complete with an en-suite western style bathroom, fan, and comfortable bedding. Dine on exquisite local cuisine from our fresh buffet for dinner, sip on a cocktail or beer from our well-stocked bar while sitting by the bonfire to enjoy authentic cultural shows in the evenings. Located only one hour away by Jeep, our camp maintains the highest standards of comfort and luxury.
While only an hour away, it feels like you’ve entered a new planet. The desert landscape encircles you as dine and recline in absolute comfort. We chose a location far from all other camps to give our guests the isolated and secluded feel of the desert. Few other experiences come close to watching the sun rise and set over the dunes from the comfort of our camp.
Village Life in the Thar Desert
For years people have made this harsh terrain their home. They created whole villages and built lives shaped by this environment.
It is amazing to see how these resilient and brave people live, especially for guests coming from very different ways of life. We created a sustainable way for our guests to immerse themselves in this village lifestyle. Rajasthanis are famous for their hospitality and these villages are shining examples.
Children curiously peek out from open windows and the braver ones shout ‘Ram Ram,’ in greeting. Shy women cover their smiles with beautiful saris as you pass by and well-groomed men in brightly colored turbans invite you in for a cup of chai while curiously and politely questioning you about your life and country.

For those seeking adventure, the Thar Desert will not disappoint. We will start with a bumpy jeep drive to one of the most remote areas of the desert followed by a ride on the desert Cadillac, the beloved camel. Reminiscent of years gone by, riding this majestic creature on the sand dunes throughout this arid region is an experience like none other.
You cannot help but imagine those who followed the same route centuries before. Marvel as the setting sun ignites the sky and sand in their very own light show; they wildly change color right before your eyes.
As darkness falls like a blanket across the sky you drink chai, cook delicious dinner over an open fire, and discuss life with the local camel men. If you are brave enough to face the dark, cold desert night, we will set up a bed for you beneath the starry sky. If the idea of sleeping outside is too adventurous for your liking rest peacefully in a modern camp setup for the night.
After a restful sleep, you will wake to the sounds of birds chirping, the singsong voices of the camel men deep in discussion, and the smell of fresh desert breakfast. The sun rising over the once darkened dunes will be a sight that you will never forget.
