Bada Bagh
8km from Jaisalmer
Literally means ‘Big Garden,’ and that’s exactly what it is. Maharaja Jai Singh II wanted to create a spectacular garden in the desert so he commissioned this land to create a water tank in the 16th century.
The garden presents a beautiful contrast to the stark desert landscape. Later on, in the 14th century, cenotaphs, or monuments dedicated to those who died, were built here to honor the royal family.
Amar Sagar Jain Temple
6km from Jaisalmer
This temple, dedicated to Lord Parshwanath, was built in 1928 by Patwa Bafna Himmat Ram is an exquisite masterpiece of art and architecture.
Its grand design reflects typical Rajasthani design but its level of artistry and detail is of a whole other level.
Kuldhara
20km from Jaisalmer
A great mystery surrounds the village of Kuldhara. Built around the 13th century the village was completely abandoned by the early 19th century.
No one knows exactly why it was abandoned, but theories range from water shortage to a possible earthquake sending the people running from the town. Regardless of the actual reason for its abandonment the town is shrouded in legend and mystery and many say it is haunted.
Lodurva Jain Temple
15km from Jaisalmer
Dedicated to the 23rd Tirthankara, Parshva, this temple was destroyed in 1152 AD, reconstructed in 1615 by Seth Tharu Shah, and again rebuilt in the 1970s as a reminder of its former glory.
